Even though we're only 1/3 of the way through our year, NCA#1 is wrapping up its year and that means that I am going to have to figure out my housing situation for when they return. Currently I am living in the apartment that the school put me in. It's my desire to get out of this very nice complex and move in with some Nicaraguans. I think I'd like to live with either a family or some other guys close to my age. There are a couple of opportunities that have come up, and a few that have dropped away. I'm having a hard time decided what I want and what would be best for me.
I'm also trying to think through purchasing a car here, contemplating the idea of keeping my life "simpler" by riding public transportation. On many levels I think it would be good for me to live that way, and in many respects I think it would be good for me to have my own wheels. The price of used cars here is quite inflated. One car that i'm considering is a 1988 Toyota 4x4 SUV. It has three doors: driver, passenger, and rear door. There is a bench seat across the front, and two benches facing each other in the back (total seating capacity of 7). It has 350,000 Kms, and a 4 speed manual transmission. The seller wants to get $5000 out of it. I doubt he could get that much, but I'd be tempted to pay 4000 or 4500. Never would I consider spending this much on this vehicle in the States, but it seems like it might be a good price here.
My prayer requests at this time come straight from above:
- That this week goes well in terms of classes and grading and conferencing with parents.
- That God might lead me in my search for a place to live.
- That I might be given wisdom in the decision about having a car or not and the decision of which car should the decision be to purchase (and for a really good deal!).
I have posted this everywhere ... Just thought you may like it too! You are in introspective type, like myself... ~ Anna
ReplyDeleteIt doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shriveled and closed
from fear of further pain.
I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us to
be careful
be realistic
remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”
It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.
It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.
wow, i was going to put a funny and sarcastic comment on your blog, but after reading the poem above i suddenly feel shallow and inmature. hmmmmm....
